英创教育「早鸟早读」计划第【3097】天明早8:30不见不散!??
Topic 10: CoinsQuestion: Do you often carry coins with you?Answer: No, not really. I don"t even usually carry my wallet with me anymore because I just use my phone. I use Apple Pay to pay for 99% of the things in my life. In fact, the only two times recently that I"ve had to use coins were: number one, I had to use a pound coin to open a shopping trolley in a slightly rough area where they"re afraid of you stealing the shopping trolley, so they make you put a pound in to pay for it. The other time was when I went to the library and I had to make a photocopy, and I had to put in some coins because the machine was quite old and didn"t accept Apple Pay. But other than that, I honestly cannot remember the last time I had to use coins.Question: Have you ever collected coins?Answer: I have collected a few coins, yeah. I"ve collected some coins and some notes from the different countries that I"ve visited. Now, that hasn"t happened so much recently because many countries are moving away from using cash and are becoming more cashless societies. But I remember when I visited Southeast Asia in about 2015, I brought back coins from Thailand, from Vietnam, from Cambodia, and from a couple of other countries as well. I would show them to my friends back in England, and they would think, "Oh, yeah, that"s pretty cool."Question: Is it convenient to use coins?Answer: No, I don"t think so, certainly not for me. I think if you"re someone who isn"t very comfortable with technology, then perhaps, yeah, coins are more convenient than going out, buying a phone, and learning how to use it. But for me, and I think for the vast majority of people, it"s definitely now more convenient just to carry your phone and to just very quickly tap anytime you have to pay for anything. So, yeah, for me, it"s not that convenient to use coins.Question: Did you use coins as a child?Answer: Yes, of course. I grew up in the 1990s, and back then, we didn"t have smartphones, we didn"t have the internet—there was nothing, really. So you had to use coins and, of course, notes and sometimes bank cards as well. But as a child, I couldn"t have a bank account. I wasn"t rich enough to have lots of notes, so I had to use coins if I wanted to go and buy some chocolate or buy some sweets in the shop or those other things that I spent my money on. So, yeah, I probably used coins almost every day back then.编辑:Moon▼IDE英创教育
