Topic 1: Good Service in a ShopQuestion: Describe a time when you received good service in a shop or store.Answer: So the time that I received good service was actually when I was in Colombia. This was about eight months ago, and it was in an optician"s, and it"s actually the first time that I ever got glasses. So it was sort of a slightly shocking moment for me because I"d always thought that my eyesight was very good. And then I was having a few headaches and things were a little bit blurry, and I thought, oh, I better check. And so I went to a shop, it was in a mall, and I got an eye test, and they said, yep, I"m afraid you"re gonna have to wear glasses. So this shop is in a city in Colombia called Medellin. And I went to the shop in February of this year, and the service that I received from the staff was, well, it was a number of different stages. It"s what"s called a one-stop shop for everything that you need for getting glasses. So it started with doing the eye test, and I had to say which of two options was the clearer, and that took about half an hour. And then when the optician gave me my prescription, which is the details of what was wrong with my eyes and what kind of glasses I needed, the sales staff in the rest of the shop explained what I needed to do, what kind of glasses I needed. They made it all much clearer for me, and they were very friendly, even though I  was kind of a bit sad and a bit nervous because it was my first time. And they were also very patient because I"d never thought about wearing glasses. So I didn"t know what type of glasses I wanted to buy.So they gave me their honest opinion on all of the different glasses that I tried on. And I was honestly trying on glasses for a good 45 minutes. I was probably their most difficult customer of the whole day. But they were very cheerful, they were patient, and so I feel like they did a really good job of helping me to come to the conclusion of buying the glasses that I eventually bought. I think that they look good, they make my eyes feel much more comfortable. I don"t get headaches anymore. So overall, I think it was a great service.Question: Why do some people not like shopping in small shops?Answer: Well, I think the main reason people wouldn"t shop in a small shop is because they want to have more choice. So if you go to a small shop, inevitably it"s just limited by size. And these days, people are used to shopping online, so they"re used to having almost unlimited options from everywhere in the world. And of course, one small shop can"t compete with the rest of the world. So probably the limitation of choice, but also, if it"s a small shop, it might not be a famous brand. And many people are quite loyal to their brands. They have brand  loyalty, so they might be thinking, oh, it"s not a brand I know. And so I don"t really trust the quality that I"m going to find in this shop.Question: What are the differences between online shopping and in-store shopping?Answer: Well, I think one of the differences is, as I just mentioned, the range of choice. So if you"re shopping online, the world is your oyster. You can buy something from a different country, you can get something delivered the following day. And that actually is another advantage of online shopping. You can do it anytime, anywhere. You don"t have to make a special plan to go shopping. You can just be sitting on the bus or sitting on the sofa, and you get your phone out and you can have a look at whatever it is that you"re interested in. Having said that, that does make it more dangerous. And I think one of the good things about only buying things in stores is that it prevents you from doing sort of lazy, boring shopping and spending a lot of money without really thinking about it.Question: Are shopping malls popular in your country? Answer: They are, I would say, not as popular as they are in other countries. So I live in England, in the UK, and there are big shopping malls. For example, in Manchester, we have a big mall called the Trafford Centre, but that"s really the only big mall in the whole city. Whereas when I lived in Beijing, there was a big mall, kind of in almost every neighbourhood. And the same when I lived in Colombia, there was a big mall, probably one every mile along the main street. So I think that British people do like malls, but they"re definitely not as popular as they are in other countries.编辑:Moon▼IDE英创教育
