Topic 5: A Place in Your City with WildlifeQuestion: Describe a place in your city where you’ve been to where you can see wildlife.Answer: Well, the place that I"ve been to, and I went there quite recently, that has wildlife, is a park. It"s called Chorlton Water Park, and it is a small man-made lake that"s just off of the main river that goes through Manchester, which is called the River Mersey. And this water park is a great place for people to visit. So there"s a nice, clean, easy path to walk around the lake. And people go there with their families, and they take their dogs and things like that. But it does also have wildlife, and in particular, it has swans. So there are a lot of swans in this water park, and it"s very interesting to watch them because they interact with the other birds. So there are ducks and there are other types of birds as well, in and around the lake, but the swans are definitely the boss. So it"s very interesting to watch how, if people are throwing bread for them, for example, the swans always get the first choice of which piece of bread to have. I imagine it"s because they"re significantly bigger. They"re bigger and stronger and heavier than all of the other animals. And it"s said, I don"t know if this is true, but it"s said that a swan could break a person"s arm with their neck, which is why people always keep their distance from swans. But that"s the really interesting thing that you can see. You can see swans, ducks, and you also see small animals, like squirrels, for example. And I generally go there about once a month, and I go and I walk my dog around there, and I really enjoy it because it"s nice. It"s nice and convenient. It has a nice feeling to it. And you can also get out and get some exercise and get some fresh air. So it"s very enjoyable.Question: Should parents take their children to the zoo to see wild animals?Answer: I think this is a very interesting question because on the one hand, I think that it"s great for children to be exposed to the natural world, to see animals, to understand that we have a relationship with the environment. But I also don"t really agree with keeping animals in zoos. It feels very unnatural to me. I think that there is a case to say that if it"s an endangered animal, like rhinos, then they have to be protected. But for animals that are not endangered, it feels like we"re keeping them in a prison. So I really don"t know if I think that parents should take children to zoos or not. I"m kind of in the middle. I"m going to sit on the fence for this one.Question: Are wild animals easy to spot in your country?Answer: Not many, no. We definitely have a lot of birds, and we have some small wild animals like squirrels, and sometimes at night you"ll see a fox, but on the whole, you could go weeks and weeks without really seeing anything, except for those animals that have learned to live with humans. So birds, pigeons in particular, and squirrels as well. Almost every other wild animal. It"s very unusual to see here.Question: Are there many wildlife documentaries produced in your country?Answer: Yeah, very much so. The BBC, which is from my country, is famous, world-famous, for the documentaries that it produces. So they have their narrator, the very, very famous David Attenborough, who is a British national treasure, and he narrates a lot of different shows about different parts of the world, the different animals. You can see things like "Frozen Planet," "Planet Earth," "Life on Earth." And there"s many different documentaries as well, and they"re always extremely high quality. So that"s one of the things that, as British people, we"re quite proud of.编辑:Moon▼IDE英创教育
