Topic 13: A Person in the Medical FieldQuestion: Describe a person you know who has chosen a career in the medical field.Answer: The person I"d like to talk about is my friend Michael. He is a doctor. He trained as a doctor at university, so he studied medicine, which is a very long, and I think often quite expensive, major. It lasts at least five years, and then you have to do several more years of training when you initially qualify. But it"s something that he finds very satisfying, and of course, it pays quite well as well. So I think that"s one of the reasons why he chose it.In terms of the reasons why he chose the career, as I mentioned, it"s well paid, but it"s also a career that has a lot of job satisfaction for people. It"s literally helping people to not die. So you can"t really imagine anything that"s more directly satisfying and a more direct way of seeing that you"re doing an important job.How do I feel about him? I admire him, really. I think he"s doing a very good job, and it"s a hard job. There"s a lot of pressure, but he doesn"t let it affect his normal life. He handles the pressure very well. It"s quite impressive to keep all of that knowledge and help all of those different people and for that not to affect the rest of your life. It"s almost like a super strength. So that"s the person I know who has a career in the medical fieldQuestion: Do you think doctors and nurses are very important?Answer: Yeah, of course. I mean, I think it would be very hard to argue that they"re not important. It"s quite clear that, you know, if you"re sick, if you go to the hospital, if there weren"t any doctors or nurses, it would be a pretty bad situation. So I definitely think that they are an extremely important part of any modern society. We couldn"t live in a world without doctors and nurses.Question: Do you think that doctors and nurses are paid enough?Answer: Well, that"s a difficult question and it"s something that has come up a lot in the UK in the last few years. For example, there have been some strikes by doctors who believe that they"re not being paid well enough. I think that certainly doctors and nurses should be very well paid, but I think that we have to think of the whole system, and particularly in a country like the UK where healthcare is free, the payment for those doctors and nurses is mostly coming from people"s taxes. So if you give the thousands and thousands of doctors and nurses a pay rise, that probably means that people will have to pay more taxes. So I do think that they should be paid well, but I don"t think that the payment should be absolutely crazy.Question: Do you think it"s necessary to learn first aid skills?Answer: I think it"s a very good idea to learn first aid skills because even if you"re not going into a career in medicine, you never know when there"s going to be an emergency and you"ll need to help someone to not die. So, for example, you might be in a car crash, someone might fall over and break their ankle on a walk in the mountains. There"s any number of situations in which having first aid skills can allow you to really help someone in an emergency and help them to survive those difficult first few moments before an ambulance or some other more experienced healthcare professional can come and help them编辑：Moon李▼IDE英创教育
