Topic 9: A Time You Lost Something ImportantQuestion: Describe a time when you lost an important and valuable item.Answer: So the important and valuable item that I lost was my Kindle, my Kindle e-reader. And I have to be honest, I still don"t know. This happened four years ago, and I"m still not entirely sure when, where, and how I lost it. All I remember is that on a Monday, I had my Kindle. I was reading it, and then about two days later, I couldn"t find the Kindle. It was gone.So I don"t know if I possibly left it on the bus, left it on the train, in a coffee shop, or even potentially maybe someone stole it. It"s really hard to say. But all I knew was about two days later, I couldn"t find it. I looked everywhere in my house, and I couldn"t find my Kindle. So it was very annoying. It"s important and valuable to me because I really enjoy reading, and I like to read ebooks because I don"t really want to carry physical books around with me. The Kindle is a lot smaller and thinner and lighter than a physical book. And usually, at any one time, I"m reading two or three different books. For example, I might be reading a novel, and at the same time, I"m reading a business book. And at the same time, I might be reading a book about history or something else, non-fiction. And the reason I do that is because I like, I have different moods, and in different moods, I like to read different things. So in the morning, I like to give myself energy by reading a business book. And then at night, when I"m quite tired, I want to relax. I"ll read a novel. So the Kindle is very important to me because it serves all of those needs. And of course, it"s not cheap either. A Kindle costs somewhere around 70 or $80. So in terms of how I lost it, as I said, I"m really not sure. My best guess is that I left it in a public place and didn"t realise. And in terms of how I felt, I felt pretty annoyed and annoyed at myself and a little bit embarrassed because I usually take pride in not losing things. I"ve never lost a phone, I"ve never lost keys or a wallet, but I definitely did lose this Kindle. So, yeah, I was a little bit embarrassed. So that was the time that I lost an important and valuable item.Question: What are some common items that people tend to lose easily?Answer: I think it"s things that you take out every day that are the things that you might lose easily. So things like keys, things like maybe a bank card, that kind of thing. For me, a Kindle or a book, it"s usually things that are not so important and also not so big that you notice if you don"t have them. For example, I always notice if I don"t have the weight and the pressure of my mobile phone in my pocket, and if I don"t have it, when I, for example, stand up from a table, I notice and I look around, and maybe I"ve left my phone on a chair, and I get it. If it"s a smaller item, like keys, you might not notice straight away. Or something quite thin, like a bank card, you might not notice. And I think those are the things that people could lose easily.Question: What do people often do after losing things?Answer: Well, I think the first obvious thing is they look for them, and they try to retrace their steps to see, where could I have lost that thing? Did I leave it on the bus? Is it somewhere, maybe at the bottom of my bag? Is it in my coat pocket that I left at home? And if they can"t find it, even after retracing their steps, then they"ll start to be a bit annoyed. They"ll start to blame themselves or maybe blame other people, and then eventually they"ll accept it and they"ll start to think about how to replace that item.Question: Is it important for students to be organised?Answer: I think it"s very important. And that"s organised in terms of, like, physical things, like making sure you take your bag with everything that you need and you don"t forget anything. You don"t lose anything. But also in terms of your time. Time organisation is extremely important for students because you"ll usually have two or three or even more different subjects that you"re studying at any one time. Often it can be six or ten. And if you don"t organise your time well, you can spend too much time doing one thing and not enough time on another, and then you become unbalanced, and you might get a bad score in whatever exam you"re not focused on. So, yeah, I definitely think it"s important to be organised in many different ways.编辑:Moon李▼IDE英创教育
