Today, I would like to share with you Aesop"s Fable, "The Dog and His Reflection." The dog, carrying a bone in its mouth, lost what it had because it coveted the "bigger bone" in the water"s reflection while crossing the bridge. Though brief, this story embodies profound core values: reflection and adherence to principles. As the dog gazed at the water in the middle of the bridge, it confronted two dimensions of "reflection": not only the interplay of light and shadow on the physical level but also the internal struggle between greed and rationality deep within its heart. Each day, we face similar trials: Can we maintain inner calmness and not be beguiled by the illusory "bigger bone" when confronted with temptations in life? Can we hold firm to our beliefs and not waver easily when encountering difficulties and challenges? These questions require us to examine our inner selves as if looking into a mirror, to press the "pause button" before acting, and to pierce through the fog of appearances with critical thinking. The deeper lesson of the story is a reminder to safeguard our inner principles. The dog had already received a bone from the butcher, a gift that should have been appreciated, but its judgment was clouded by comparison and greed. In life, we often face choices: Should we blindly pursue more, or cherish what we already have? Should we be swayed by external evaluations, or adhere to our inner selves? True growth lies not in possessing more, but in knowing how to value and be grateful.I believe that as you learn to use reflection to adjust your direction and protect your initial goal with principles, what may seem like ordinary daily study and life will eventually accumulate into character traits that benefit you for a lifetime. Just like the current exploration-themed courses in the primary school and the interdisciplinary project-based courses in the secondary school, every clash of ideas and every revision of plans in your team collaboration is forging wisdom that transcends that of the dog in the fable.MIS Reading CoursesDates: Every Monday to Thursday
