英创教育「早鸟早读」计划第【3145】天明早8:30不见不散!??
Topic: An Energetic Person You KnowPart 3 (Discussion):What kinds of jobs need a lot of physical work?Well, I think anything where you"re doing manual labour, so things like building, things like plumbing, anything where you"re not sitting at a desk and looking at a computer.Of course, unfortunately, that"s a lot of work these days. It involves long hours, eight, ten hours a day of sitting in a chair and looking at a computer screen. And I think that"s a big problem, and in some ways, I"m quite jealous of the people who have jobs, for example, like my dad, taking people up mountains or farming or gardening, things where they can enjoy being outside, they can enjoy fresh air.So, yeah, those are some of the jobs that require some physical work.Do you think machines could replace human workers in the future?I think that"s a very big question, of course, and I think it depends what sort of workers we"re talking about. It seems as though AI is advancing so quickly that it probably will replace a lot of people, particularly in white-collar positions, people like project managers, that sort of thing, within the next, say, five to 10 years. And I think that"s going to cause a lot of social unrest because people will feel that they no longer have a stake in society, and it"s going to cause a lot of economic difficulty as well.I don"t know if machines, physical machines, will replace people, for example, in jobs like gardening, picking fruit, because even now, with the advance of amazing technology, human hands are still much more capable, much more nimble and subtle than machines can be.So I think it really depends on the area that we"re talking about. What’s the difference between the payment for physical work and that of mental work?Well, I think that a big factor is that the starting salaries of manual physical work versus mental work are fairly comparable. They"re not that different, but there"s quite a clear ceiling on most manual work.Whereas if you are very successful in your mental work job, if, for example, you"re, let"s say, a lawyer, the ceiling is—well, there"s almost no ceiling. It"s an unlimited amount of money that you can make from your mental work. And that"s partly because mental work can be more scalable than physical work. So someone who writes a newspaper article, if that"s an amazing article, that can be read by 5 million people, whereas someone in manual work can"t really fix a pipe or build a house 2that 5 million people will live in.So, yeah, I think the starting salaries are generally the same, but the finishing salaries feel very different.
