The problem of environmental pollution has haunted humanity for decades. Some people may express reservations upon whether environmental pollution is really caused by human beings and public transport. Environmental pollution, however I think, is largely human-induced, and in this essay, I will discuss the measures that the government and individuals can adopt to solve the problem.

Environmental pollution is mainly displayed as air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, noise pollution and radioactive pollution,etc.. Urban areas have been particularly hard hit by these. If we delve deeper, we will easily conclude that all these are inextricably bound with human activities. The traditional slash-and-burn farming have exhausted the soil. Farmers avidly took to chemical fertilizer as a sure measure to boost crop yield. And the decades since the industrialized revolution sees the over-exploration of natural resources and reckless discharge of pollutants. Factories discharge waste into the environment with such a quantity that is beyond the ability of environmental self-purification. As a city’s wealth grows, so does its greenhouse gas emission. The advent of automobiles brings speed and convenience for people, but meantime, causes air pollution by releasing carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides to the air.

In my opinion, we are in a prime time to curb the environmental pollution from deteriorating. The government should impose ‘green tax’ on those businesses and individuals in charge. Also, the government should legislate against the mass production of fossil-fuel-guzzling vehicles. But what really count is the part that each person plays. Making small changes like taking smaller, fuel-efficient cars, using less disposable tableware, garbage sorting or switching off the lights when you leave a room can make a big difference.

In conclusion, this is no easy task. Both the government and individuals should play their part before it's too late.
