一是学校和老师需要教授孩子各种知识和技能,这些内容直接决定了孩子长大后能否找到一份好工作或有能力为社会发展做出积极贡献。
二是学校和老师同样也会影响孩子的价值观,他们和父母一样,能够告诉孩子应该做什么并且避免孩子遭受欺负等负面行为的影响。

While education has long been recognized as paramount for children’s development, the problem of who should be responsible for the future of children has never reached an agreement. Whereas some consider it as parents’ obligation, others stick to the opinion that schools should have their role to play in cultivating children to be a good social member. Personally speaking, I tend to support the latter point of view, considering the advantages of schools in the cultivation of academic knowledge and social skills.
It is easy for some people to laud parents’ value in educating children to be a good social member, though it works with enlightening education in childhood. While at early age, young children are more likely to establish these values from the role modelling from adults, that’s why parenting can play its part. Given that parents are the first educator for the next generation, the way they think, speak and behavior does exert long term influence on their offspring, particularly in the cultivation of conscience, personality and outlook on the society. All of these features will accompany children for the rest of their life, regulating their behavior.
However, this is not how it seems in the eyes of others, who attribute children’s development to schooling. Compared with parenting, the first advantage of the school lays emphasis on academic education, which is inextricably bound up with the future career of students. After all, it is not social etiquette but academic achievements that decide which university students could go.
Apart from that, another factor exclusive to school is the social ability. Since the first day they step into campus, students are exposed to a wide variety of peers and teachers from various backgrounds. Such an environment will provide opportunities for them to learn communication skills and deal with different problems in interpersonal contact. All of these capabilities are imperative to be a good member of adult society and cannot be acquired by solely communicating with parents.
Although parenting has its part to play in children’s education, I would argue that the school should be more important for the them to be a useful talent in society, because it provides students with a more comprehensive capability than parents do.
