Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn"t Grow Up, often known simply as Peter Pan, is a work by J. M. Barrie, in the form of a 1904 play and a 1911 novel titled Peter and Wendy, often extended in Peter Pan and Wendy. 彼得·潘,一个会飞的淘气小男孩彼得·潘,一个不愿长大也永远不会长大的小男孩 Chapter 1 PETER BREAKS THROUGHAll children, except one, grow up. They soon know that they will grow up, and(1)the way Wendy knew was this. One day when she was two years old she was playing in a garden, and she (2)plucked another flower and ran with it to her mother. I suppose (3)she must have looked rather delightful, for Mrs. Darling put her hand to her heart and cried, "Oh, why can"t you remain like this for ever!" (4)This was all that passed between them on the subject, but henceforth Wendy knew that she must grow up. You always know after you are two. (5)Two is the beginning of the end. (1)this was the way that Whedy knew 温迪是这样子认为的(2)pluck 基本意:you take it between your fingers and pull it from where it is采摘(花&果子&枝叶);拔、扯;弹、拨 (乐器);拔除 (禽类的羽毛)[PHRASE]If you pluck up the courage to do something that you feel nervous about, you make an effort to be brave enough to do it. (3)she must have looked rather delightful她一定是一个相当可爱的女孩[ADV]You use rather to indicate that something is true to a fairly great extent, especially when you are talking about something unpleasant or undesirable. I"m afraid it"s a rather long story. (4)This was all that passed between them on the subject事情的经过就是如此(逐字翻译:这就是她们之间关于这个话题的全部经过了。)(5)Two is the beginning of the end两岁是个结束,也是个开始。Of course they lived at 14 [their house number on their street], and(6)until Wendy came her mother was the chief one. She was a lovely lady, with a romantic mind and such (7)a sweet mocking mouth. Her romantic mind was like the tiny boxes, one within the other, that come from the puzzling East, however many you discover there is always one more; and (8)her sweet mocking mouth had one kiss on it that Wendy could never get, though there it was, perfectly (9)conspicuous in the right-hand corner. (6)until Wendy came her mother was the chief one在温迪出生之前,她妈妈一直是家里的宠儿。 (8)her sweet mocking mouth had one kiss on it that Wendy could never get她那张带着点逗弄人的甜甜的嘴,老是挂着一个温迪亲不到的吻(9)[ADJ]If someone or something is conspicuous/k?n?sp?kju?s/, people can see or notice them very easily. Most people don"t want to be too conspicuous.大多数人不愿过于显眼
The way Mr. Darling won her was this: the many gentlemen who had been boys when she was a girl discovered simultaneously that they loved her, and they all ran to her house to propose to her except Mr. Darling, who (10)took a cab and nipped in first, and so he got her. He got all of her, except the (11)innermost box and the kiss. He never knew about the box, and in time he gave up trying for the kiss. Wendy thought Napoleon could have got it, but I can picture him trying, and then (12)going off in a passion, slamming the door. (10)took a cab and nipped in first雇了辆马车,抢在了前面(11)[ADJ]Your innermost thoughts and feelings are your most personal and secret ones. *隐秘的...revealing a company"s innermost secrets....揭开一家公司*深藏的秘密。(12)going off in a passion, slamming the door摔门而去,愤愤离开Mr. Darling used to(13)boast to Wendy that her mother not only loved him but respected him. He was one of those (14)deep ones who know about stocks and shares. Of course no one really knows, but he quite seemed to know, and he often said stocks were up and shares were down in a way that would have made any woman respect him. (13)boast about sth. to sb. 吹嘘(14)deep ones who know about stocks and shares那些深谙股票和证劵的人She"s always been a deep one, trusting no one.
