So I was 24, and I"d lived my whole life in the UK, and I really wanted to do something different.And I looked around, and I looked at all of the different options that I had, and the one that really stood out was to go to a place that was very, very different from the UK, and that was China.One of the things that influenced me was that I already had a friend living in China, and he"d said amazing things, and he"d had an amazing time.He"d only stayed for a year, but he"d said if he had the chance in the future, he would definitely go back. And that seemed like a pretty strong recommendation.So I made the decision by kind of—I thought about it for a while, but I mostly just went on my gut. And I thought, worst case scenario, I can go, and if I don"t like it, I can get back on the plane and come back two weeks later.As it turned out, I did like it, and I stayed, in the end, for nine years. But I didn"t spend too much time really mulling it over. It was more of a gut decision.And the results of the decision? Well, I had an excellent time. Like, I learned to speak Chinese, and I made a lot of the best friends of my life and ate a lot of food—a lot of food, too much food at times.And yeah, I think overall the results were really good because I grew up. I spent from the age of 24 to 33 living in China. So it was a big part of an important time in my life.And then it was important in a general way because I think that I grew up a lot when I was there. As it"s often said, I went over there a boy and came back a man.So, yeah, that was the important decision I made, which was to travel and live in China
