Topic: Helping OthersDescribe a time when you helped a friend to solve a problem.You should say:● Who the friend was● What the problem was● How you helped● How your friend reactedWell, the time that I helped someone solve a problem recently—this isn’t exactly my friend—it was actually helping my mother-in-law, and this happened just earlier today, in fact.The situation was that for Christmas, my wife and I had bought my mother-in-law an Alexa, a smart speaker to put in her kitchen. Now, my mother-in-law is quite young at heart, and she enjoys using technology. She’s on her phone almost the whole day—she’s glued to her phone—but she’s not very good at learning to use technology that she’s unfamiliar with. She’d never had a smart speaker before.So, the way that we helped her to solve a problem was to show her exactly how to install and configure her new Alexa. The main problem she was having was that the Alexa we had bought her in the UK was speaking to her in English, and she’s Colombian and doesn’t speak English. So, it was pretty difficult for her to communicate with the Alexa.What we had to do was to reinstall the Alexa and figure out exactly how to set it with Spanish as its standard language instead of English. It took quite a lot of fiddling around with the different settings, doing some Google research, and watching a few YouTube videos. But in the end, I was able to find the answer, and I felt very pleased with myself because I’m also not very good with new technology.But in this case, I was able to help my mother-in-law solve that problem.
